Who we are
We are not a part of the Chicago law firm St. Thomas More Society. We are associated with the Catholic Bar Association. The St. Thomas More Society of St. Louis is a community of Catholic Legal Professionals. We support our members in St. Louis County which includes the surrounding areas of St. Louis City, St. Charles County, and Jefferson County.
We welcome St. Louis University and Washington University law students to participate in meetings and events. We support the work of Catholic Charities and many non-profit organizations providing services in the St. Louis Archdiocese.
Our history
“The King’s good servant – but God’s first.” The last words of St. Thomas More serve as a moral compass, guiding members of the St. Thomas More Society of St. Louis to combine faith and legal service. We began our mission in 2012 in the same spirit of St. Thomas More. In the 16th Century, Thomas More served as Lord Chancellor of England and was a recognized scholar and devout family man. Thomas More resigned when King Henry VIII demanded a signing of the Oath of Supremacy recognizing him as the head of the Church of England. Because he refused to sign, Thomas More was put to death. Today he is known as the Patron Saint for lawyers, statesmen, and political leaders.
